TOS Propionate Agar is a selective culture medium specifically designed for the isolation and enumeration of Bifidobacterium species. It contains transgalactosylated oligosaccharides (TOS) as a selective carbon source, combined with propionate salts that suppress the growth of competing microorganisms.
Why it matters: This medium enables high selectivity and reliable recovery of Bifidobacteria, making it ideal for probiotic research, quality control in functional foods, and microbiome studies where accurate detection is critical.
